Anorexia nervosa is typically defined as a severe and life-threatening eating disorder that usually begins during adolescence. Significant weight loss, distorted body image, and intense fears related to dieting are characteristic features of this disorder. Anorexia nervosa not only affects an individual’s physical health but also has a negative impact on their psychological and emotional well-being. This condition arises from the interaction of biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors. Genetic predispositions, family dynamics, personality traits, and environmental influences are the main factors contributing to the development of anorexia nervosa. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an effective approachin the treatment of anorexia nervosa. This therapy aims to change individuals’ negative thought patterns, false beliefs, and maladaptive behaviors. In anorexia nervosa, distorted body perception and rigid eating behaviors are the primary focal points of treatment. The main goal of CBT is to help individuals develop healthy eating habits and correct their distorted body image. One of the first steps in the therapy is for individuals to recognize their negative thoughts and replace them with healthier, more realistic ones. Additionally, various behavioral techniques are used to regulate eating behaviors. For example, cognitive restructuring techniques are employed to help individuals develop nutrition plans, increase meal frequency, and overcome food-related fears. The success of CBT in anorexia nervosa is supported by numerous clinical studies. Research shows that CBT promotes long-term recovery and is effective in reducing eating disorders. Furthermore, it has positive effects on long-term appetite loss and eating behaviors, reducing relapse rates during the treatment process. During treatment, individuals not only have the opportunity to address their existing eating disorders but also develop healthy thinking and coping strategies. This results in lower patient numbers and improved quality of life after treatment.
