Body dysmorphic disorder is a psychiatric disorder defined by individuals being overly preoccupied with a non-existent bodily defect or excessively exaggerating an existing body defect. Although this disorder has been included in the literature for a long time, it is not widely recognized. This condition, which may be chronic and resistant to treatment, may cause intense symptoms at the delusional level and may lead to serious loss of function in the individual. Since it can have negative consequences such as a significant decrease in the quality of life and an increased risk of suicide, the correct diagnosis and treatment processes of body dysmorphic disorder are of great importance. In the treatment of body dysmorphic disorder, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) stands out as one of the most effective and widely used psychotherapeutic approaches. CBT plays an important role in the treatment process by enabling individuals to question their negative bodily perceptions and change their behavior with thinking based on these perceptions. In this case report study, the diagnostic criteria, etiological factors, clinical features and treatment methods of body dysmorphic disorder were summarized.
